Iditarod 45 Race Blog: Lead mushers continue up the coast

03/13/2017 06:50  Monday morning update

Differing strategies took shape overnight as the top mushers continued to push their way up the Norton Sound coast.

Mitch Seavey rested in Shaktoolik for just over five hours, leaving at 2:14 a.m. with 12 dogs. Dallas Seavey, Joar Leifseth Ulsom and Nicolas Petit all hurried through Shaktoolik. Wade Marrs arrived at 3:18 a.m. and is still resting as of 6:30 a.m.

GPS tracker shows Dallas Seavey and Ulsom stopped to rest on a strip of land about 15 miles north of Shaktoolik early this morning.

Although the official race standings show Petit in Shaktoolik, GPS data says he hurried through and is currently chasing Mitch Seavey into Koyuk.

Jessie Royer also continues to make a strong run. She pulled into Shaktoolik around 5:20 a.m. and is currently resting.

All of the mushers have reached the halfway point of Huslia.
