Good Samaritan killed in Parks Highway collision

A young Anchorage man died Monday evening after being struck by a tanker truck while attempting to assist a snowmachiner on the side of the road. 

Just after 6 p.m. Monday, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a collision between a tanker truck and a pedestrian. 

Troopers say 22-year-old Sylvester Smith, of Anchorage, stepped out of his vehicle on Parks Highway to assist a snowmachiner on the side of the roadway when he was struck by a passing tanker truck near milepost 280.
