Fish on! The Department of Fish and Game says the Kenai River has reopened to sockeye salmon fishing.
Officials say the river has achieved the sustainable escapement goal (SEG) of 700,000 to 1,200,000. Effective Thursday at 12:01 a.m., ADF&G is restoring the bag limit of three fish per day, six in possession.
Fish and Game closed the Kenai River on August 4 due to low sockeye salmon returns. The restriction was put in place to protect returning fish and future fishing opportunities.
