Close to 100 aftershocks have already been registered in the state of Alaska just two days into the new year.

While most of those aftershocks haven't reached a magnitude high enough for Alaskans to feel, nine of them have registered higher than a magnitude 3.0, according to data from the Alaska Earthquake Center.

On Wednesday, a magnitude 4.2 aftershock was registered just five miles northwest of Anchorage, waking many from their sleep.
