The Anchorage Fire Department responded to an early morning house fire that left one person dead over the weekend, according to a release from the department.
Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting the fire around 2:08 a.m. Sunday. AFD said callers reported both smoke and fire coming from a one-story single family residence on the 5000 block of Strawberry Road.
"The first AFD units arriving on location found the structure fully involved with fire showing through the roof and coming out the windows," the release stated. "As the fire was spreading into adjacent trees, wood fencing, and threatening other homes, crews immediately began a defensive operation to stop the spread of the fire."
