The debate over abortion has been in the national spotlight recently as Alabama last week joined a growing list of states passing legislation to make abortion illegal in nearly all cases.

So far this year, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio and Utah have passed abortion restrictions that could challenge Roe v. Wade, according to the New York Times.

Alaskans are joining the discussion, too. On the last day of the regular legislative session,Rep. David Eastman, R-Wasilla, introduced House Bill 178 which defines a “preborn child” as a person from the time of conception.
