Gov. Mike Dunleavy announced the appointment for Alaska's new public defender on Tuesday.
In a statement issued Sept. 17, Dunleavy said he picked Samantha Cherot to fill the position left in April by Quinlan Steiner.
Cherot was chosen from a group of three applicants given to Dunleavy by the Alaska Judicial Council on Aug. 20. She will serve a four-year term after legislative confirmation, the release states.
