Anchorage Assembly member Fred Dyson nearly stirred up more fury over flowers when he introduced a budget amendment that would have taken $120,000 from the downtown flower budget to pay for an Anchorage Police Department lab technician.
Dyson says he wanted to help reduce delays in getting blood work results in sexual assault and driving while impaired cases, but withdrew his amendment when the assembly discussed the budget Tuesday night.
Dyson says since the state crime lab is responsible for the blood work, an APD lab tech wouldn't have been needed. He plans to look for other ways to help the lab provide blood results quicker.
