Would you be willing to pay more for a drink if you knew part of the money would go towards public safety?

If that question sounds familiar, it should. It was less than a year ago that Anchorage voters turned down an alcohol tax earmarked for homeless services.

On Tuesday Anchorage Assembly members will introduce a new alcohol tax sponsored by members Felix Rivera, Austin Quinn-Davidson and Forrest Dunbar. The proposed tax is the same — 5% — whether it’s a drink in a bar or a bottle in a liquor store.
