A ballot measure that would raise taxes on North Slope oil fields has garnered enough support to go before voters. Supporters of the Fair Share Act say the proposed new law will bring much needed changes to Alaska’s oil tax credit system.

A release from “Vote Yes for Alaska’s Fair Share” sent Tuesday says the group collected more than 43,000 signatures from registered Alaska voters in at least 35 House districts.

In order to qualify to put the measure on the ballot this year, the group had to gather 28,501 signatures from at least 30 of Alaska’s 40 House districts.
