The Anchorage Assembly is continuing to discuss COVID-19 as Alaska’s governor announces plans to move into a new phase of reopening.

Mayor Berkowitz on reopening Anchorage

As Tuesday night’s Anchorage Assembly meeting was beginning, so was the state’s press conference where Gov. Mike Dunleavy announced the newest plans of reopening the economy allowing all businesses to open at 100% capacity.

Ahead of the state’s announcement being presented in the assembly meeting, Mayor Ethan Berkowitz was asked about Anchorage’s reopening.

"The governor and I have worked very well together on dealing with the pandemic response and we're going to continue to do so," Mayor Berkowitz said. "There's a recognition on both our parts that the conditions in Anchorage are different than the conditions though out the rest of Alaska, and that sometimes the way to the common goal is maybe to take different paths."
