The Municipality of Anchorage is in the process of awarding financial assistance to small businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The city says eligible applicants will be selected at random for the grant program, and it expects to notify those chosen by the end of this week.
Based on the sheer volume of applications the municipality has received, program coordinator Jason Bockenstedt says there's a huge need for the funds, and its clear the million-dollar program won't be able to cover everyone.
"We would love to be able to get everyone that applied the funding, so that is something that we're going to be working towards." said Bockenstedt, who serves as chief of staff to Mayor Ethan Berkowitz.
