15-Year-Old In Custody Over Mall Shooting In Wisconsin That Injured 8

Multiple People Shot At Milwaukee Area Mall

Authorities in Wisconsin have arrested a 15-year-old in connection with a shooting at Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa that left eight people injured. Officials did not identify the teen and have not released his photograph over fears that the investigation could be compromised.

They said that the shooting was "not a random act" and resulted from an altercation between two groups of people. Seven adults and one teenager were shot. Four of the people who were hurt were described by police as "innocent bystanders." None of the injuries were considered life-threatening.

Authorities have not said what sparked the altercation that led to the shooting, which occurred on Friday (November 20) afternoon. It took six hours for officers to clear the shopping mall. They said the suspected shooter left the mall during the chaos that followed the shooting.

The suspect was taken into custody on Saturday during a traffic stop. Police confiscated the weapon used in the shooting during the arrest.

"I am so proud of the personnel in our police department. They have worked tirelessly to solve this case quickly. We have gotten support from so many agencies; Law enforcement here in Wauwatosa and all of SE Wisconsin continues to showcase the professionalism and capability that citizens have come to expect," Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber said in a statement.

The mall reopened on Saturday.
