Wind gusts reported up to nearly 100 mph left thousands in the Anchorage Bowl without power Tuesday, as some outages continued into Wednesday.
Municipal Light & Power said on Twitter that power had been restored to all of its roughly 2,500 affected customers by 4:45 a.m. Wednesday. Chugach Electric reported more than 15,000 customers without power at the peak of the outage Tuesday, a number which had fallen to nearly 1,600 by 9 a.m. Wednesday according to Chugach's outage map.
Chugach spokeswoman Julie Hasquet said crews had faced flying debris getting caught in lines Tuesday, as well as winds so strong they made it unsafe to work. Crews were continuing to address outages Wednesday, but couldn't give an estimate on when power might be restored.
